How You Can Stay Positive in a Negative World Through Your Thoughts

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it (for death or life).” Proverbs 18:21

The Everyday Life Bible – Amplified Version by Joyce Meyer

Feeling as though your life is cursed?

Are you struggling to say or think anything positive about your situation, life, or yourself?

Did you know that the power of death and life is in your tongue (and your mind)?

When we speak to ourselves, we either speak life (positive) or death (negative), and the results of what we speak manifest, and we eat our words. Almost quite literally.

I have been recovering from partial knee replacement surgery. It has been painful, and there have been moments when I could only cry. Cry and complain. Well, I complained to the wrong person about how the recovery from surgery was not going well. I was quite sternly corrected for speaking death over my recovery. Instead of speaking death (negative) over my recovery, speaking life (positive) was the correct response.

At first, I was somewhat hurt, but as I began to think about it, the more I realized how right he was. I felt sorry for myself and spoke death over my own life. This is not what God wants for His children.

“The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a Mighty One, a Savior (who saves)! He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest (in silent satisfaction) and in His love He will be silent and make no mention (of past sins, or even recall them); He will exult over you with singing.” Zephaniah 3:17

The Everyday Life Bible – Amplified Version by Joyce Meyer

That is how much God loves you. God saved you from His wrath through His Son Jesus, and He delights in you. Always.

If God sings over your life, you should not cancel His blessings and love for you by saying negative words about yourself and your life.

Speak life over your health.

Speak life over your finances.

Speak life over your children, spouse, relationships, and yourself.

Rejoice in knowing God sings over you. Rejoice in His Word and praise Him for the blessings He bestows upon you, even if those blessings seem minor to you.

Every blessing counts. Every. Single One.

And no, it is not easy. It takes time and concentrated effort. It is a battlefield of the mind and the heart.

In her bestselling book, Battlefield of the Mind, Joyce Meyer says this:

“You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind.”

In Ephesians 4:29, Paul writes, “Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk (ever) come out of your mouth, but only such (speech) as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and gave grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.”

This includes words we speak over ourselves.

Rejoice that you are redeemed.

Rejoice that you have been bought for a price.

Rejoice that God Himself sings over your life.

Rejoice over the blessings you can name and outnumber the stars in the sky.

Rejoice that you are a child of God.

“If you only do what is easy, you will always remain weak.”
